We are the change we have been waiting for. Now that’s a message that Global Groove Life can vibe with! It’s also one of the core messages from January’s Woke Folks Festival.
We’re so glad that GGL was asked to participate in the first ever Woke Folks Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The festival was born out of ex-pat grief turned into inspiration ignited by recent racial violence in Charlottesville. Love in community seemed like the only possible response that could create a difference.
Woke Culture
Woke Folks Festival is the thrivable (i.e. beyond sustainable - we want to create a future that’s better than our past and even our present) future we’ve all been envisioning - “a universally inclusive space for people of all cultures and colors to be unapologetically themselves. We are woke folks because we are a collective of conscious co-creators, seeking unity by celebrating what makes us unique.”
The festival highlighted culture, art, knowledge, adventure, and connection all across the city of Chiang Mai for a full week. The event was so popular that next year the festival will need to expand into larger spaces to accommodate everyone who wants to participate in the fun!
Co-Creating Magic
Woke Folks Festival gave Global Groove Life the opportunity to showcase our goods in Chiang Mai for the first time ever! We finished a BRAND NEW home decor collection just in time for the festival. You could say that this event pushed us to our creative limits. We’re so excited to hear what you think about our new collection!
There was a collaborative exhibition and fashion show during Woke Folks that Global Groove Life enjoyed taking part in. GGL was paired with an artist named Tyler Rose who drew inspiration from our wares to create a piece of art for the event. Check out the big, beautiful hanging tapestry that Tyler created with pieces of GGL fabrics! We love how Tyler’s piece accentuated our exhibition.
Global Community
We truly are growing together as a global community. Weaving rich tapestries full of vibrantly different experiences, lifestyles, and histories into a masterpiece of human potential. Events like Woke Folks Festival show us how successful our collaborations can be.
As we all continue to follow our unique paths and express our individual truths we see beautiful places where our gifts overlap with what others are bringing to the table. These places where we can combine our efforts create quantum leaps in creativity, sustainability, and the ways we relate to each other.
Woke Folks was a wonderful gathering of an incredibly creative global community. We can’t wait to watch it grow year after year! Follow the Festival’s social media or check out their website for more information. All the lovely faces in these photos prove that a smile is the same in every language!
